Trail Etiquette
Trail running takes place in shared environments — footpaths, farmland, coastal routes and public spaces. Respecting these spaces, and the people who use them, is essential to keeping events safe, enjoyable, and sustainable.
Respect Other Trail Users
You may encounter walkers, cyclists, families, and other runners.
-
Be polite and courteous at all times
-
Slow down when approaching others
-
Give space where possible
-
Offer a friendly “thank you” when passing
👉 We are guests on these routes — a positive attitude goes a long way.
Respect the Environment & Land
Our events rely on good relationships with landowners and local communities.
-
Stick to marked paths
-
Do not cut corners or create new lines
-
Respect farmland, crops, and private land
-
Follow any instructions from marshals
👉 Protecting the land ensures these events can continue.
Close Gates
If you pass through a gate:
-
Leave it exactly as you found it
-
Close it securely if it was closed
👉 This is especially important in areas with livestock.
Be Aware of Livestock
You may encounter animals on course.
-
Slow down and pass calmly
-
Give animals plenty of space
-
Do not startle or chase livestock
👉 Your safety — and the welfare of animals — comes first.
Leave No Trace
We operate a strict no littering policy.
-
Do not drop gels, wrappers, or bottles
-
Use bins at aid stations or carry waste with you
-
Dispose of waste responsibly after the event
👉 Littering may result in disqualification.
Overtaking & Being Overtaken
-
Call out politely when passing (e.g. “on your right”)
-
Wait for a safe opportunity on narrow trails
-
If being overtaken, allow space where possible
👉 A little communication prevents frustration and keeps things flowing.
Keep Noise to a Minimum
-
Be mindful in quiet or residential areas
-
Avoid loud music or shouting unnecessarily
👉 Respect the surroundings and local communities.
Follow Event Instructions
-
Listen to marshals and signage
-
Follow the marked route at all times
-
Adhere to any safety instructions
👉 These are in place for your safety and the safety of others.
